Brenau Sweeps Southern Wesleyan in SSAC Action

Gainesville, Ga- The Brenau softball team returned to conference play today and picked up two more wins by scores of 9-1 (5), and 13-5 (5) over Southern Wesleyan (1-5, 6-14) to run their league leading record to 11-0-1 and their season mark to 20-3-1. They also set a school record for home runs in a conference series with five and four different players got in on the fun. Morgan Smith hit two, Caitlin Kelly hit her first collegiate homer, Ellen Black hit one out and Anna Maness got one, too. It was a case of a lot of offense as the Tigers collected 12 hits in each of the games and they did it all in a total of 10 innings.
Maness picked up two more wins, pitching a complete first game, striking out five and giving up one earned run, then coming in to relieve Black in the second one, striking out three to get that win.
In the first game, Smith went 2-2, both of which were homers, Maness was 2-3 with a homerun and three RBI's and Black hit a homer with one of her two hits. Brooke Bryant was 2-2 and Lana Lazar, Tiffany Schandera, Sarah Applegate and Caitlin Kelly each had a hit.
In the nightcap, Kelly was 2-2, including her first collegiate homer, Applegate went 3-4 with 3 RBI's, Schandera drove in two runs with two hits and Jana Bryant was a perfect 2-2 from the plate. Maness collected two more hits, with two RBI's and Black had another hit.
Next action for the Tigers will be a rematch with Columbia on Sunday at the Lanier Point Softball Complex with games scheduled to start at 2 and 4 pm.
