Faulkner Hands #23 Brenau First Conference Loss

Gainesville, Ga- The Brenau softball team suffered their first conference loss of the season today at the hands of Faulkner (5-7, 13-13), 2-1 in 9 innings in the second game of a doubleheader at the Lanier Point Softball Complex. The Tigers won the first game 3-0 behind the six strikeout performance of Anna Maness. Brenau learned just before the games that they had been voted #23 in the first NAIA Softball Top 25 poll of the season and continue to lead the SSAC with a 12-1-1 record and ran their overall mark to 21-4-1.Tiffany Schandera came up big at the plate in the first game, with a hit, two walks and two RBI's and Brooke Bryant drove in the other run on a hit. Sarah Applegarth, Caitlin Kelly and Maness had the other hits in the game. In the nightcap, Maness struck out five in the extra inning contest. The Tigers were only able to manage two hits, one of them a solo homerun by Applegarth. Lana Lazar had the only other hit. Brenau will play host to #12 Shorter in a critical doubleheader on Thursday at Lanier Point with the first pitch at 5 pm. Corporate sponsors Papa Johns and Texas Roadhouse will be giving away free pizza and peanuts while they last so get there early to see some excellent college softball between two of the nation's best teams.
