Brenau Softball DefeatsTruett-McConnell in Conference Opener
March 2, 2011
Cleveland, GA - The Brenau softball team took little time overcoming Truett-McConnell College in its first conference double-header, 16-2 and 8-0. The Golden Tigers were unstoppable at the plate and continue to charge through their competition with a conference record of 2-0 and overall record of 11-0. Tiffany Schandera went 4-7 with a total of 7 RBIs. Taylor Kelley also had a good night at the plate going 5-8 with 3 RBIs, 2 doubles, and 3 singles. Sally Duggan and Lana Lazar were both 3-3 with Duggan cranking a triple and 2 singles, and Lazar hitting 3 singles.
Additionally, the Bears were unable to get a strand of luck from the Golden Tigers defense as only one error was made in both games. Katie Bolin had several good catches in left field, and Taylor Kelley was outstanding in her plays as shortstop.
"Once again, everyone contributed to the victories in the conference opener," commented Head Coach Devon Thomas. " The offense was paced by Schandera, Lazar and Kelley. Pitching was solid and defense was strong."
There's no rest for the Golden Tigers as they take on two of the top teams in the conference and NAIA this weekend at home. First up is a double-header against #10 Shorter University on Friday, March 4th at 4:00 pm at Lanier Point Softball Complex. Then on Saturday, March 5th at 2:00 pm they take on #7 Lee University at the same complex.
