The #5 Golden Tigers Devour the Bears
Gainesville, GA - The #5 Brenau University Softball Team swept Truett-McConnell College, in Tuesday's series. Losing both games, the Bears fell to a record of 6-20 for the season, and 1-11 in conference. However, this series allowed the Golden Tigers to continue their 15 game winning streak, bringing them to 28-2 for the season, and 12-0 in the SSAC.
Starting the series off strong, in the 1st game, Brenau University earned 4 runs, within the 1st inning alone. As the game progressed, so did the Golden Tigers' score, they gained 2 additional runs, in the 2nd, bringing the score to 6-0. Brenau continued to shut out Truett-McConnell, when they managed to earn a run in both the 3rd and 4th innings. At one point, the Golden Tigers considered giving the Bears an opportunity to get on the board, when they did not find themselves rounding off to home plate; nevertheless, Truett-McConnell did not take advantage of the fifth inning, which turned out to be the last. Brenau University defeated Truett-McConnell College, 8-0.
Tiffany Schandera (Columbus, GA) maintained the lead off position, for the Golden Tigers, going 2-3 at the plate, with a single, double, and a RBI. Jacqueline McWhorter (Columbus, GA) went 2-2, with 2 singles. Ellen Black (Toccoa, GA) continued to play big, by going 3-3 at bat, with a grand slam, 2 singles, and 5 RBIs. Furthermore, Jenny Shepherd (Martinez, GA) received a double and a RBI. Both, Brooke Bryant (Royston, GA) and Sally Duggan (Huntsville, AL), made contact in 1 hit, with a single. The team, as a whole, earned 10 hits with no errors. In addition, Anna Maness (Seagrove, NC) pitched 3 strike outs.
As for the 2nd game, both the Golden Tigers and the Bears struggled to get on the scoreboard early. No runs were scored until the 3rd inning, when Brenau earned a run, breaking into the lead, 1-0. The 4th inning proved to be a different story, to say the least; the Golden Tigers were on a mission, when they earned 6 straight runs. Never looking back, Brenau got their 8th and final run of the game, in the 5th inning, while Truett-McConnell struggled to even get on base. Once again, the Golden Tigers beat the Bears 8-0.
Shandera came out strong, once more, earning a double and a RBI. Jacqueline McWhorter and Jana Bryant (Marietta, GA) each went 2-3 at bat, with 2 singles. As for Morgan Smith (Covington, GA), she went 2-2 at the plate, with 2 singles, and 2 RBIs. Both, Shepherd and Duggan, kept the team's spirit up when they earned multiple doubles and RBIs. Black ruled the field again, when she stuck out 2 of Truett-McConnell's batters, and hit a single and a RBI for her team. Brenau University's Softball Team continues to impress their fans, totaling 12 hits with no errors. For the series, against Truett-McConnell, Brenau never made an error while at bat.
The Golden Tigers are currently on the prowl, awaiting their next conference match up. They are set to play at Shorter University (who is receiving votes at the National Poll) this Friday, at 4 and 6 pm.
