Brenau Softball Opens 2012 Season at LaGrange
February 17, 2012
The 2011 softball season opens today for the Brenau university softball team on the road in LaGrange, GA. The Golden Tigers will play NCAA DIII LaGrange College in a double-header on both Friday and Saturday. Friday's games will start at 3pm and Saturday's first game will begin at 9am.
Brenau returns a very talented team that concluded the 2011 season with an overall record of 41-9 and 25-7 in the SSAC. The Golden Tigers bring back a team loaded with talent including a trio of NAIA All-Americans in pitcher Anna Maness, 3rd basemen Tiffany Schandera, and pitcher/designated player Jenny Shepherd. Additionally, Schandera earned SSAC Player-of-the-Year honors, while Shepherd took home SSAC Co-Freshman-of-the-Year honors. Maness was named to the All-SSAC First Team and that distinction was also given to catcher, Morgan Smith, for her tremendous 2011 season.
The Golden Tigers also received tremendous news last November when the NAIA and the SSAC conducted their respective rankings. At the national level, Brenau took the number 5 spot in the NAIA National ranking while the SSAC placed them in the pre-season #1 spot for the first time in the history of the program!
