Golden Tigers Split on Day Two

GULF SHORE, AL - Brenau's softball team had a day of mixed fortune on the second day of the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament. The Tigers had a bright start to the day by beating Walsh University 3-1 in 8 innings; however, the second game did not end so favorably. Brenau was defeated by Freed Hardeman University 8-1.
Brenau allowed Walsh University the early lead giving up 1 run at the bottom of the first inning but replied in the 4th inning to tie the game 1-1 forcing extra innings. Sophomore, Sally Duggan (2-4 with 2 RBI) won the game with a two run homerun at the top of the 8th inning to bring the score to 3-1. Sophomore, Katie Bolin was very solid on defense going 2-4 with 1 RBI. At the mound Jenny Shepherd had 7 strikeouts and allowed six hits.
Up against a strong Freed Hardeman team in the second game, Brenau had a total of just 5 hits compared to their opponents 15. Anna Manessa started pitching the game but was replaced by senior, Ellen Black in the 2nd inning. Black had one strike out and was solid on the mound for the remainder of the game- giving up just one run. She also went 1-2 at the plate. Jenny Shepherd went 1-3; junior, Tiffany Schandera scored the Tigers only run- going 2-2.
Today's results bring the Golden Tigers overall record to 11-3. Brenau will return to action on Sunday in the final day of the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament. Game time is set for 10AM CDT with the opponent to be announced.
