Golden Tigers Trounce Hiwassee Tigers
GAINESVILLE, GA - The Brenau University softball team had an excellent home opener after shutting out Hiwassee College and winning both games in spectacular fashion yesterday evening. Playing in a double header at Lanier Point, the Golden Tigers were unstoppable in both games winning 20-0 and 24-0 respectively.
First game pitchers Anna Maness and Sally Duggan, put up a perfect defense resulting in a no-hit game for the visitors. Maness started at the mound and had a total 4 strikeout outs. She was to be replaced by sophomore Sally Duggan who recorded 5 strikeouts. Duggan also had a good game at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Taylor Kelly hit the games only homerun and went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Ellen Black went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's while Tiffany Schandera went 2 for 3, Lana Lazar went 2 for 3, Jana Bryant went 2 for 2, and Brooke Bryant went 3 for 4.
The Golden Tigers were equally potent in the second game recording an unbelievable 25 hits. Sally Duggan was just shy of a second perfect game at the mound with 1 hit against her- a grounder to the hole at short-stop. Duggan had a total of 10 strikeouts on the day.
