Brenau Softball Wins Two Against Coastal Georgia
GAINESVILLE, GA - The Brenau softball team returned to action today at Lanier Point with two games against Coastal Georgia. The GoldenTigers came into the game with a record of 15-4. Brenau took the first game comfortably with a 9-1 win and followed up in the second game with a 3-0 win.
Junior, Anna Maness was the winning pitcher for the Tigers first game with a total of 6 strikeouts in 5 innings. She allowed just 5 hits in the game. At the plate, Brenau had 10 hits with Jacquelin McWhorter hitting the game's only home run; she went 1 for 3 with 2RBI's. Ellen Black went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's. Sally Duggan and Lydia Gerrin both picked up an RBI with Duggan going 1 for 4 and Gerrin going 1 for 2. Tiffany Schandera went 2 for 3.
In the second game, sophomore Jenny Shepherd started at the mound. She had no hits against her and recorded a total of 6 strikeouts. She was replaced by Ellen Black for one inning and recorded 1strikeout before Shepherd returned to finish out on the mound. Shepherd was also featured at the plate going 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. Lana Lazar went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, and Brooke Bryant went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI. Both Sally Duggan and Lydia Gerrin went 1 for 2 and Jana Bryant went 1 for 1. Brenau had a total of 10 hits overall, the Mariners had no hits in resoonse.
Today's games bring Brenau's record to 17-4. The Golden Tigers will look to carry their winning streak when they visit Shorter University on Tuesday for a pivotal SSAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 5pm start in Rome, GA.
