Brenau Prevails in Tight Double Header
GAINESVILLE GA - The Brenau softball team came out top on Friday evening in a close double header against SSAC opponents Southern Wesleyan University. The current conference leaders finished the first game 2-0 and the second 1-0.
The Golden Tigers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th when their bats really started to come alive. The action was started when Jenny Shepherd hit a line shot to right field (a single). Winning pitcher Anna Maness had a total of 8 strikeouts and a held Wesleyan to only 1hit. In reply, the Tigers had a total 7 hits and no strikeouts. Shepherd went 2 for 3 as did senior Ellen Black. Taylor Kelly and Lydia Gerrin both went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI apiece.
The second game was an even tighter affair for the Golden Tigers scoring just one run and taking only 4 hits. Wesleyan had 5 hits in reply, but winning Brenau pitcher Jenny Shepherd had a total 9 strike outs. Katie Bolin got the Tigers eventual winner in the bottom of the 5th when she hit the evening's only homerun. Bolin went 2 for 2 in the game. Shepherd and Black went 1 for 2.
The double win took the Golden Tigers record to 20-5 and 7-1 in the SSAC.
