Brenau Drops Game to SSAC Foe

COLUMBUS, GA - The Brenau softball team had a split day on the first day of the Southern States Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament in Columbus, Georgia. The Golden Tigers started the day with a 5-1 win over #18 Auburn University Montgomery. However, in a tight game with Faulkner University, the Tigers were defeated 4-5.
Against AUM, Brenau had a total 8 hits to the Warhawk's 3. Winning pitcher- Jenny Shepherd- had a total of 15 strikeouts in the game breaking the previous school record. Senior, Morgan Smith was dominant in the game going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI's and a homerun. Lydia Gerrin picked up the final RBI of the game. Kris Reynolds went 2 for 4 and Brooke Bryant went 1 for 2.
In the Tigers second game, SSAC pitcher of the week- Anna Maness- recorded a total of 4 strikeouts before being replaced by Ellen Black who also recorded 4 strikeouts. The duo allowed Faulkner a total 11 hits. Brenau only managed 10 hits in reply.
With the score at 5-1 in Faulkner's favor Ellen Black (1-4) hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 5th to bring the score to 5-4, but it was sadly not enough to clinch a victory for the Tigers. Junior, Taylor Kelly picked up the Tigers other RBI's going 3 for 3 at bat. Tiffany Schandera went 3 for 4 and Jenny Shepherd went 2 for 3.
