Brenau Sweeps Truett McConnell in Softball Doubleheader
In the first game, Brenau had a total 8 hits, scoring 5 runs. After the weather delayed the start of the game, the Tigers were quick to get into the action taking a run in the first inning. They followed up with the remaining 4 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Ellen Black and Lana Lazar were strong in the offense with Black going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's and Lazar going 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Jenny Shepherd went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and fellow sophomore Kris Reynolds went 0 for 2 with 1 RBI. Junior, Tiffany Schandera went 2 for 3. On the mound, Anna Maness was solid with a total 7 strikeouts. She limited the Bears to 6 hits and just 1 run in return.
Brenau started the second game the way they had ended the first. The Golden Tigers scored 3 runs in the first inning when senior Morgan Smith (1-3) hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the first. Jenny Shepherd (2-3) then hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the third. Shepherd then picked up an RBI in the fifth inning as did Taylor Kelly (0-3 with 1RBI). Sally Duggan (2-3) then closed the game out when she hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the run rule. Lana Lazar and Tiffany Schandera had strong performances going 3 for 3 and 2 for 3 respectively. Brenau had a total 11 hits and 3 home runs. On the mound, Shepherd was the winning pitcher for Brenau. She had total of 5 strikeouts and allowed the visitors just 2 hits in return.
Brenau will hope to carry on their winning home form when they are visited by Emmanuel College next Tuesday (4/10) at 5pm.
