Brenau Softball Wins on the Road at SWU
CENTRAL SC -The Brenau University softball team returned to their winning ways last night when they played Southern Wesleyan University in an SSAC double header. The Golden Tigers defeated the Warriors 10-0 in the first game and 7-2 in the second, to improve their record to 33-9 overall and 18-5 in the SSAC.
In the first game the Tigers, could not be stopped recording a total 19 hits. In return, pitcher Anna Maness limited Southern Wesleyan to just 3 hits. She also recorded 8 strikeouts. At the plate, Lana Lazar was prominent
going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI's. Jenny Shepherd also scored 3 RBI's going 2 for 4. Morgan Smith picked up 2 RBI's going 1-5, Tiffany Schandera went 4-5 with 1 RBI and senior Ellen Black went 2-4 with 1
RBI. Taylor Kelly (1-3) and Brooke Bryant (2-3) were also influential in the game.
In the second game, Brenau had a total 13 hits and scored 7 runs to the Warriors 2. Ellen Black started the pitching but was replaced by Maness. Maness finished out the game with a total 6 of strikeouts. The Warriors were quick off the mark in the first inning taking 2 runs, but Brenau replied with 3 runs in the third and 4 runs in the fourth to win the game comfortably. Picking up from her success at the mound, Anna Maness picked up 2 RBI's going 2 for 4 at the plate. Jenny Shepherd also picked up 2 RBI's going 1 for 4. Junior, Taylor Kelly went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. Other notable mentions went to Tiffany Schandera (1- 2), Lana Lazar (3-4), Sally Duggan (1-2), Taylor Schrader (1 -1) and Brooke Bryant (2 -3).
The Golden Tigers will return to action in Gainesville on Thursday, April 19th when they will be visited by Shorter University. The game promises to be an exciting one as the Tigers are in a battle to win the Eastern Division of the SSAC and the matchup is even more critical with that title on the line. Game time is scheduled for 5pm at Lanier Point Park.
