Brenau Softball Receives Post-Season Honors

The Golden Tigers softball team was well represented at the SSAC Softball Banquet last week, taking home at least one award in almost every category introduced. Players received votes from SSAC coaches of member institutions based on their accomplishments throughout the season.

Academically, the Golden Tigers placed half of the team on the SSAC All-Academic Team; an impressive accomplishment. The requirements for being a recipient of this honor are a cumulative gpa of 3.25 or higher and the athlete must have achieved sophomore status at their institution.

Representing Brenau on the SSAC All-Academic Team are: Brooke Bryant, SR, Royston, GA; Lana Lazar, SR, Sharpsburg, GA; Ellen Black, SR, Toccoa, GA; Morgan Smith, SR, Covington, GA;Austin Smith, SR, Cumming, GA; Anna Maness, JR, Seagrove, NC;Tiffany Schandera, JR, Columbus, GA; Sally Duggan, SO, Huntsville, AL; and Kris Reynolds, SO, Bogart, GA.

The individual awards for accomplishments in softball were distributed amongst a third of the team.

Named to the SSAC All-Conference Team:Pitcher, Anna Maness, JR, Seagrove, NC and Tiffany Schandera, IF, JR, Columbus, GA.

Named to the SSAC East-Division Team: Ellen Black, 1B/P, SR, Toccoa, GA; Jenny Shepherd, P,SO, Martinez, GA and Lana Lazar, OF, SR, Sharpsburg, GA.

SSAC East-Division Pitcher of the Year: Anna Maness, JR, Seagrove, NC.

SSAC East-Division Gold Glove Infielder: Taylor Kelley, IF, JR, Toccoa, GA.

Capping off the list of awards for the evening was the coveted Champions of Character Award given to Senior, OF, Austin Smith of Cumming, GA.
