Elizabeth Schneider signs with Brenau Softball
St. Pius X Catholic High School standout Elizabeth Schneider of Atlanta signed a letter of intent to play softball for the No. 4 nationally ranked Brenau University Golden Tigers starting in 2012-13 academic year.
Schneider played catcher and 3rd base for the St. Pius Golden Lions as well as for the Georgia Fire travel team. At St. Pius she lettered every year and started all games for the Golden Lions since she was a freshman.
"Liz is an outstanding player and an excellent student," said Brenau Coach Devon Thomas. "She will be a terrific asset to our lineup."
Schneider is a two-time all-state selection, a two-time all-region first-team selection, and all-region offensive player of the year in 2009 and 2010. Her St. Pius teammates voted her the most valuable offensive player for 2009 and 2010. She helped the Golden Lions win the region championship for the last four years, advance to the final four in the state in 2008, the Sweet 16 in 2009 and 2010, and a 2011 berth in the state playoffs. By her junior year, Schneider had set St. Pius's single-season, all-time school records for batting average (.549), RBI (37), triples (5), hits (56), and most hits in a single game (4).
In addition to softball, she lettered basketball while helping her team finish 7th in the state - No. 4 in state rankings in the final 2011 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Coach's Poll.
"I am very excited to play for the Golden Tigers and to study at Brenau next year," said Schneider, who is a consistent dean's list and academic honor roll performer, too. "I like the positive, competitive attitude of the coaches as well as the overall excellence of the softball program. I fell in love with the personal treatment, small class size, and philosophy that Brenau provides for its students. I believe that, with the guidance of Coach Thomas and [Assistant] Coach [Gary] Hatfield, I will be able to bring my game to the next level and contribute to the team's winning tradition. I am honored to be selected as a student athlete here at Brenau."
