Tigers Win Three of Four in SSAC Play
The Brenau Golden Tigers softball team played a pair of conference foes this weekend defeating the College of Coastal Georgia 2-0 and 4-3, while splitting with Brewton-Parker College.
In the first game versus Coastal Georgia, Jenny Shepherd (Martinez, Ga.) threw a complete game shutout to take the win. The junior hurler gave up four hits while striking out four to capture her fourth win of the season.
Leading hitters for the Golden Tigers include Liz Schneider (Smyrna, Ga.) who went 1-2 with a home run, and Tiffany Schandera (Columbus, Ga.), who went 2-3. Shepherd, Taylor Kelly (Toccoa, Ga.), and Lauren Parten (Hartwell, Ga.) each added a hit.
In the second game versus Coastal Georgia, the Golden Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 4-3 victory.
In the second doubleheader, the Golden Tigers split with conference foe Brewton-Parker College losing the first game 6-5 while winning the finale 4-1.
In game 1 versus Brewton-Parker, Brenau took an early 5-0 lead with 3 RBIs from Liz Schneider (Smyrna, Ga.) and 2 RBIs from Katie Bolin (Danielsville, Ga.). Schneider, who went 1-3 on the day, mashed her third home run of the season. The Golden Tigers also received hits from Taylor Kelly, Jenny Shepherd (Martinez, Ga.) and Lydia Gerrin (Mt. Airy, Ga.).
However, the Golden Tigers couldn't hold the lead as the Barons scored five runs in the fifth inning and another in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead.
Jenny Shepherd pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs, while Taylor Causey (Covington, Ga.) pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, giving up one run on one hit.
In game 2, Brenau scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 4-1 victory.
Senior Tiffany Schandera led the offense batting 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Liz Schneider continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-3 with 1 RBI. Sally Duggan (Huntsville, AL.) went 2-3, while Cheyenne Marsh (Richmond, Hill, Ga.) went 1-1 with an RBI.
Anna Maness (Seagrove, NC) pitched seven strong shutout innings to secure her 10th win of the season.
The Golden Tigers next take the field on Tuesday when they visit Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC. First pitch is at 5 pm.
