#21 Softball Falls to #3 Auburn Montgomery
The #21 Brenau softball team dropped two games to #3 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) University in an SSAC doubleheader on Tuesday in Gainesville.
In the opening game, the Golden Tigers surrendered eight runs over the first four innings for an 8-0 deficit. In the bottom of the fourth, Kelsey Payne (FR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) scored on an AUM error to make the score 8-1, but the Brenau offense was unable to generate any momentum.
Jenny Willis (SR/Auburn, Ga.) took the loss for the home team as the senior allowed all eight runs over four innings.
In game two, the Warhawks scored a run in the top of the third inning to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Golden Tigers responded in the bottom of the fifth as Taylor Causey (JR/Covington, Ga.) singled to score pinch runner Allison Gunn (SO/Toccoa, Ga.) to even the score 1-1.
After AUM responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead, the Golden Tigers rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Liz Schneider reached on an AUM error, and then Katie Cole hit a two-run home run to cut the score to 4-3. With the tying run on second, the Golden Tigers were unable to continue the rally and fell 4-3.
Sarah Peery (FR/Auburn, Ga.) led the Brenau offense with two hits, while Cole went 1-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Madison Gossett (FR/Trenton, Ga.) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs with six walks and six strikeouts to take the loss.
Brenau (14-6, 4-2 SSAC) next travels to Franklin Springs, Georgia on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Emmanuel College. First pitch is at 4 pm eastern time.
