Softball Drops Two Against Faulkner
The Brenau softball team lost a pair of Southern States Athletic Conference games against Faulkner (Ala.) University this weekend in Montgomery.
In the opening game, the host Eagles jumped out to an early lead behind a two-run homer from Jessica Butterworth. The home team added to their lead as Hannah Qualls singled home another run for a 3-0 lead.
The Golden Tigers scored one run in the top of the third, but Faulkner answered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Brenau again rallied with two runs to cut the lead to 5-3, but the Eagles scored in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game 6-3.
The Golden Tigers outhit the host team 11-7, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
Courtney Kenney led the Golden Tigers batters going 2-3 with an RBI, while Elizabeth Schneider added two hits and scored a run.
Starting pitcher Gracie Dorr pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out three to take the loss.
In game two, the Golden Tigers bats stayed quiet as Faulkner closed out the doubleheader 4-0.
After a scoreless first three innings, Faulkner scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Schneider again notched two hits, while Cheyenne Marsh added the only other hit for the Golden Tigers.
Jessica Rathje allowed three runs on five hits while striking out three over five innings. Taylor Causey pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
Brenau (12-11 overall, 0-2 SSAC) next travels to Emmanuel (Ga.) College on Monday for a 3 pm non-conference doubleheader.
