Softball Routs Brewton Parker
The Brenau softball team pounded out 17 hits in a 17-3 rout of Brewton Parker (Ga.) College in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup on Friday in Gainesville.
Brenau slugged five runs in the second inning to take a commanding 5-2 lead, then added three in the fifth and nine in the sixth to finish the Barons in six innings.
Kelsey Payne led the Golden Tigers with a home run and five RBIs, while Courtney Kenney went 3-3 with three RBIs. Seniors Landon Farrow and Elizabeth Schneider each added two RBIs, while fellow senior Cheyenne Marsh added two hits and an RBI.
The Brenau bats notched a season high six doubles to help the Golden Tigers reach their 26th win.
Jessic a Rathje pitched four innings, allowing three runs to capture her 19th win of the season, while Taylor Causey threw two shutout innings in relief.
Game two was cancelled due to inclement conditions and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Brenau (26-20 overall, 10-7 SSAC) next hosts Middle Georgia State on Saturday at 2 pm at Chestatee High School.
