Payne Named SSAC Softball Player of the Week

Kelsey Payne has been selected as the SSAC Softball Player of the Week for her performance during the week of April 18-24, the conference office announced Monday.

Payne, a sophomore outfielder, led the Golden Tigers to a 4-1 week, while hitting .435 (10-for-23). The Golden Tigers split a non-conference set with Tennessee Wesleyan, took a game from Brewton-Parker (Ga.) and swept a doubleheader against Middle Georgia State.

The Chattanooga, Tenn., native tallied 10 hits—including two doubles and three home runs—over the five-game span. She also added six runs scored and nine RBI.

Payne slugged .913 on the week—headlined by a three-hit, five-RBI performance in the 17-3 rout of Brewton-Parker.

The sophomore ranks among the SSAC leaders in total bases (2^nd, 103), hits (3^rd, 63), hits per game (3^rd, 1.31), total bases per game (3^rd, 2.15), batting average (4^th, .391), triples (4^th, 2), runs batted in (6^th, 34), on-base percentage (6^th, .453), slugging percentage (7^th, .640), doubles (7^th, 12), home runs (7^th, 8), doubles per game (8^th, .25), runs batted in per game (10^th, .71), runs scored (10^th, 33), home runs per game (10^th, .17), triples per game (12^th, .04) and runs scored per game (16^th, .69).

Nationally, Payne ranks 35^th in total bases, 37^th in hits and 44^th in at-bats.
