Payne Named SSAC Softball Player of the Week
Kelsey Payne has been selected as the SSAC Softball Player of the Week for her performance during the week of April 18-24, the conference office announced Monday.
Payne, a sophomore outfielder, led the Golden Tigers to a 4-1 week, while hitting .435 (10-for-23). The Golden Tigers split a non-conference set with Tennessee Wesleyan, took a game from Brewton-Parker (Ga.) and swept a doubleheader against Middle Georgia State.
The Chattanooga, Tenn., native tallied 10 hits—including two doubles and three home runs—over the five-game span. She also added six runs scored and nine RBI.
Payne slugged .913 on the week—headlined by a three-hit, five-RBI performance in the 17-3 rout of Brewton-Parker.
The sophomore ranks among the SSAC leaders in total bases (2nd, 103), hits (3rd, 63), hits per game (3rd, 1.31), total bases per game (3rd, 2.15), batting average (4th, .391), triples (4th, 2), runs batted in (6th, 34), on-base percentage (6th, .453), slugging percentage (7th, .640), doubles (7th, 12), home runs (7th, 8), doubles per game (8th, .25), runs batted in per game (10th, .71), runs scored (10th, 33), home runs per game (10th, .17), triples per game (12th, .04) and runs scored per game (16th, .69).
Nationally, Payne ranks 35th in total bases, 37th in hits and 44th in at-bats.
