Softball Sweeps Middle Georgia in SSAC Play
The Brenau softball team again used outstanding pitching to defeat Middle Georgia State to remain undefeated in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Gainesville.
In the opener, Kathleen Daniel added another outstanding performance to her freshman campaign, throwing a no-hitter against the visiting Knights. The Locust Grove, Ga. freshman went seven innings, allowing no hits and no runs with 14 strikeouts for her 18th win of the season.
Mackenzie Oliver Mullis and Autumn Conaway each went 2-3 in the opener, while Courtney Kenney and Mason Garland each added an RBI to the win.
In game two, starter Jessica Rathje combined with Daniel to pitch seven innings to help the Golden Tigers win their 25th game of the year.
Rathje threw four innings to win her seventh game of the year, while Daniel went three innings in relief.
The Brenau offense pounded out 14 hits as Mullis again led the Golden Tigers with a 3-3 effort with two stolen bases. Kelsey Payne and Lexi Cash each added two hits and two RBIs, while Tabitha Morrison had two hits.
Brenau (25-5 overall, 4-0 SSAC) next travels to conference rival Faulkner (Ala.) University on Tuesday for a 5 pm eastern/4 pm central doubleheader in Montgomery.
