#8 Golden Tigers Power Past #21 Mobile
The #8 Brenau softball team used two home runs to power past #21 University of Mobile in a key Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday in Gainesville.
Kelsey Payne and Autumn Conaway each mashed homers to give the Golden Tigers sole possession of first place in the conference.
In game one, Brenau starter Kathleen Daniel and Mobile starter Sydney O'Connor battled through the first five innings with neither pitcher giving ground. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Payne connected with a solo shot over the right-center field fence to clinch game, 1-0.
Daniel pitched a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts and one walk to win game one.
In game two, Daniel again shut down the Rams' offense, while Conaway hit her first collegiate home run as the Golden Tigers completed the sweep with a 4-1 win.
Daniel threw her second complete game of the day, allowing five hits and one unearned run with eight strikeouts for her 28th win of the season.
Conaway went 2-3 with the home run and one RBI, while Courtney Kenney added two hits and two RBIs.
Brenau (35-5 overall, 14-0 SSAC) hosts #2 William Carey (Miss.) University (33-4 overall, 13-1 SSAC) in a crucial Saturday matchup at 1 pm in Gainesville.
