Softball Falls to LSU-Alexandria 2-1 at NAIA Championships
The Brenau softball team outhit LSU-Alexandria, but came up one run short to the host Generals in a 2-1 loss in game two of the 2017 NAIA Softball National Championships on Tuesday in Alexandria, La.
The Golden Tigers had opportunities at the plate but the offense stranded seven runners to halt the team's 31-game winning streak.
The home team struck quickly in the bottom of the first as Julinn Torres doubled to deep left center to score Jacy Ummel for a 1-0 lead. Two innings later, Torres again plated Ummel as the home team extended their lead to 2-0.
The Brenau offense answered in the top of the fourth as freshman Shelton Kendrix scored on a Mason Garland single to cut the deficit to 2-1, but were unable to string together any more runs.
Freshman pitcher Kathleen Daniel pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out 15 in the loss. Madison Resch pitched five innings to earn the win for LSU-Alexandria, while Marci West threw two innings to pick up the save.
Brenau will now play the winner of Edward Waters College and University of Arts and Sciences in an elimination game at 7 pm eastern/6 pm central.
