Softball Splits With Tennessee Wesleyan in AAC Doubleheader
The #19 Brenau softball team split a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference games with Tennessee Wesleyan University on Thursday in Gainesville.
In game one, the Golden Tigers outhit the visiting Bulldogs 12-8, but were unable to overcome three errors to take a 7-3 loss.
Mason Garland, Faith Grooms and Shelton Kendrix each drove in a run in the loss.
Starting pitcher Caroline Mitchell allowed five earned runs over 2 1/3 innings, while Kaleigh Sullivan pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one earned run while striking out two.
In the second game, Brenau broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-2 win.
The Golden Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead, however, the Bulldogs evened the score with two runs in the top of the sixth. The home team answered with a walk-off run to capture their 18th win of the season.
Autumn Conaway went 3-3, while Kelsey Payne added two hits.
Starter Jessica Rathje threw a strong seven innings, allowing two runs with six strikeouts to earn her seventh win.
Brenau (18-11 overall, 7-3 AAC) next hosts Reinhardt University (22-18 overall, 12-4 AAC) on Sunday in a 1 pm doubleheader.
