Softball Defeats Tennessee Wesleyan in AAC Tourney Opener
The Brenau softball team upset the #2 seed Tennessee Wesleyan University 4-2 in the opening round of the 2018 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament in Kingsport, Tenn. on Wednesday.
Pitcher Kaleigh Sullivan threw a complete game, allowing only two runs on six hits to help her team advance to the quarterfinals of the double elimination tournament.
The Golden Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, and then increased their lead in the third to 3-0 on a two-run single by Shelton Kendrix.
The Bulldogs threatened in the fifth inning to cut the score to 3-2, however senior Kelsey Payne drove in her second run of the game to make the score 4-2.
Brenau (26-18) will face #6 Point (Ga.) University (27-23) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 5pm. Point upset #3 Union (Ky.) College 2-1 in the opening round. Brenau split the season series with the Skyhawks during the regular season.
