Softball Players Receive Postseason Honors
Four members of the Brenau softball team received national honors for their academic and athletic achievements this past season.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recognized Autumn Conaway and Faith Grooms for their performances on the field during the 2018 season.
Conaway, a first-team AAC selection, was named as a South region, second-team at-large infield selection. She hit .396 with 34 RBIs to help the Golden Tigers advance to their sixth NAIA World Series. The Guyton, Ga. native was seventh in the AAC in batting average and eighth in hits.
A Commerce, Ga. native, Grooms, who was named as a South region, second-team outfielder, hit .386 with 40 RBIs during her first season at Brenau. The freshman was sixth in RBIs and third in steals in the AAC.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) also honored Mason Garland and Sarah Peery for their academic achievement during the academic year.
Garland, a biology major, and Peery, a nursing major, both received the 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete award for their academic successes. Both Garland and Peery received AAC All-Academic team honors at the conclusion of the regular season.
Honorees must maintain a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and have attended the institution for two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
