Softball Announces 2018-19 Signing Class
The Brenau Athletics Department and head coach Devon Thomas announces the 2018-19 softball signing class.
Fresh off their third NAIA World Series Appearance, the Golden Tigers add ten talented student-athletes to their roster.
Abigail Bailey, Savannah Dooley, Claire Fendig, Brooke Kibbe, Maygan Loparo, Alyssa Maisonet, Madison Oliver, Steffanie Redmon, Lexie Tallent and Erin Teaney join eleven returning letter winners from last year's squad.
Bailey, a graduate of Banks County High School, is the daughter of Amy and Robbie Bailey. The first-team All-Region selection plans on majoring in Nursing while at Brenau.
Dooley, the daughter of Melissa Duke, is a graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Georgia. During her high school career, Dooley was a multiple All-Region selection, an Athens Banner first-team selection and helped her team to back-to-back 4A Region Championships in 2016 and 2017.
Fendig, the daughter of Teri and Bruce Fendig, was a standout outfielder and first baseman for Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA. The St. Simons Island native was both a two-time 2-AAAAA All-Region selection and her team's Most Valuable Player.
Kibbe, the daughter of Melissa and John Kibbe, is a graduate of Jackson County High School and a native of Hoschton, GA. In 2017, she earned Region 8-AAA Pitcher of the Year honors and was both AAA first-team All-State and All-Region.
Loparo, the daughter of Robin Loparo and Jared Adams, earned 6A Region 8 Player of the Year honors at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, GA. The four-year starter posted a career .407 batting average and .496 on base percentage while played multiple positions across the diamond for the Longhorns.
Maisonet, the daughter of Anna Maisonet, is a two-time first-team All-State performer for Lamar County High School in Barnesville, GA. During her prep career, Maisonet also earned Region Player of the Year honors and earned Academic Player of the Year recognition twice.
Oliver, a local product from Gainesville, Georgia, is the daughter of Camille and Anthony Oliver. Oliver, who plans to major in Early Childhood Education, was the career leader in home runs and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gainesville High School.
Redmon, the daughter of Tracy and Corey Redmon, is also a local player who graduated from East Hall High School in Gainesville, GA. The third baseman was a three-time All-Region player and an All-State performer during her prep career.
Tallent, the daughter of Christy and Jeff Tallent, was a standout catcher for Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia. The future Nursing major was a four-time All-Region player and and 2016 Scout softball All-American.
Teaney, the daughter of Jackie and Randy Teaney, is a native of Miamisburg, Ohio. The standout, who plans to major in Business, was a second-team all-conference player and the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year.
"This is a very talented class of athletes coming in this season with each and every one having the chance to make an impact as a freshman," said Thomas. "This is the largest recruiting class that I have brought in since 2009 and I am looking for continued success for the program for many years to come."
