Softball Takes Two From Agnes Scott
Gainesville, Georgia-The Brenau softball team swept Agnes Scott College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
In game one, the Golden Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and starter Jessica Rathje threw a complete game to win 5-3.
Leadoff batter Faith Grooms started the big inning with a single, then added a stolen base to start the inning. After a Maygan Loparo walk, Autumn Conaway singled to load the bases. Freshman Alyssa Maisonet hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Grooms for the first run. Shelton Kendrix then singled to left to score Loparo, and then Lexi Cash doubled to center to score Steffanie Redmon make the score 3-0. Tabitha Morrison then added an infield single to increase the score to 4-0.
Kendrix added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, singling home Maisonet to make the score 5-1.
The Scotties threatened with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Rathje forced a popup from Kayla Quisenberry to close out the game.
In game two, the Brenau offense pounded out eleven hits while starting pitcher Chloe Fambrough threw five shutout innings in an 11-0 rout in five innings.
The Golden Tigers scored two in both the first and second innings and added seven in the fourth inning to pull away easily from the Scotties.
Steffanie Redmon went 3-3 with three RBIs and Karly Smith also went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Fambrough allowed only one hit and struck out two to earn her second win of the season.
Brenau (5-1 overall) opens conference play against Allen University (2-2 overall) on Monday at 3 pm in Gainesville.
