Softball Falls to TWU in Conference Play
Athens, Tn.-The Brenau softball team dropped a pair of conference games to Tennessee Wesleyan 7-0 and 10-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.
The losses were the first in conference for the Golden Tigers, who entered the matchup with an undefeated mark in league play.
In game one, the host Bulldogs struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second inning to cruise to a 7-0 win. Bulldog starter Courtney Caulkins held the Brenau bats to only three hits in the game. Brenau starter Jessica Rathje struggled on the mound, allowing five earned runs through six innings.
In game two, the Golden Tigers struggled again as the Bulldogs scored nine runs in the third inning to break open the game. Tennessee Wesleyan's starter Cheyenne Strong allowed no hits through five innings to take the win. Brenau's Chloe Fambrough pitched 2 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits to take the loss.
Brenau (11-3 overall, 2-2 AAC) next travel to St. Andrews University (7-15 overall, 0-4 AAC) on Friday for a 2 pm AAC doubleheader.
