Softball Sweeps Piedmont International in Non-Conference Play
Gainesville, Ga.-In a non-conference matchup, the Brenau softball team capitalized on poor fielding to sweep Piedmont International University on Sunday.
The host Bruins struggled in the field, committing 12 total errors in both games, which helped the Golden Tigers secure both victories.
In game one, Maygan Loparo and Autumn Conaway combined for six hits and three RBIs in a 9-0 rout in five innings. Claire Fendig went 2-2 with two RBIs, while Lexi Cash, Tabitha Morrison and Erin Teaney also added RBIs.
Jessica Rathje pitched four innings, allowing only one hit, while striking out five for her eighth win of the season. Brooke Kibbe threw one inning with one hit and no runs allowed in relief.
In game two, the solid play from the Golden Tigers allowed the home team to win 9-4.
Senior Lexi Cash went 3-4 with two RBIs, while Loparo continued her strong day, going 2-3 with three RBIs.
Caroline Mitchell went five innings on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits for the win. The sophomore struck out seven on the afternoon.
Brenau (15-3 overall, 4-2 AAC) resumes conference play on Tuesday when the squad hosts Point University (13-11 overall, 8-6 AAC) for a 4 pm doubleheader.
