Golden Tigers Hitting Overtakes Montreat College

The Brenau softball team swept their double header versus Montreat College on Sunday.

In the first game, at the bottom of the first, Faith Grooms advanced to third on stolen bases. With a single to center, Autumn Conaway's RBI brought Grooms in to score.

In the bottom of the second, Lexi Cash hit a sacrifice bunt putting Alyssa Maisonet on second base. Tabitha Morrison then hit a double deep to left center to score Maisonet bringing the count to 2-0.

In the fifth Faith Grooms took advantage of a dropped pop-up advancing to base and with yet another stolen base, took second. Maygan Loparo then drove a ball to deep right center for a double, scoring Faith and finishing the game with a 3-0 win.

Pitcher, Jessica Rathje, led the way on the mound with just 1 hit and 0 runs allowed.

In the second game a hit from Autumn Conaway brought Grooms in to score at the bottom of the first. The Caveliers tried to answer back when Montreat's Graclyn Green hit a homer to left field followed by a triple from Mikki Shelton bringing in 2 more runs and putting the Caveliers up 3-1.

The Tigers were not deterred however, and they showed it when in the fourth and fifth innings their bats got hot scoring a total of 9 runs to secure the 10-3 win.

Rathje stayed consistent on the mound through the second game winning again for the sweep.

Senior Day welcomed a fantastic crowd to honor seniors Lexi Cash, Chelsea Dale, and Jessica Rathje.

The Golden Tigers are on the road this week competing against conference foe Union College on April 6.
