Softball Wins Three Road Games in AAC Play
The Brenau softball team swept Bluefield College and split a doubleheader with Milligan College in critical Appalachian Athletic Conference play this past weekend.
Against Bluefield College, the Golden Tigers used outstanding pitching to shutout the host Rams 5-0 and 8-0.
In game one, starter Jessica Rathje threw seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits with nine strikeouts to take the win. Alyssa Maisonet went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Claire Fendig went 2-2 with an RBI in the win.
In game two, the strong pitching continued as Rathje combined with Kaleigh Sullivan and Caroline Mitchell to allow only one hit in an 8-0 shutout. Maygan Loparo went 3-4 with three RBIs, and Lexi Cash went 2-3 with two RBIs. Faith Grooms added a hit and two stolen bases.
In game one against Milligan, Rathje again pitched a gem, throwing seven innings and striking out eleven to earn her 17th win of the season. Grooms continued her strong weekend with two hits and two steals and Autumn Conaway added two hits and an RBI.
In game two, the host Buffaloes scored two runs late to edge out the Golden Tigers 2-1. Shelton Kendrix went 2-3 with an RBI, while Rathje pitched six innings, allowing only two runs to take the loss.
Brenau (28-8 overall, 17-7 AAC) closes out conference play on Wednesday when the squad travels to Reinhardt University (26-15 overall, 17-7 AAC) for a 2 pm doubleheader.
