Softball Players Receive AAC Postseason Honors
Kingsport, Tennessee- Members of the Brenau softball team were recognized by the Appalachian Athletic Conference for their performances and contributions during the 2019 season.
Maygan Loparo was voted as the 2019 AAC Co-Freshman of the Year for her performance this season by the conference coaches. The Sugar Hill, Ga. native hit .439 in her first season as a Golden Tiger and hit safely in 31 of 37 regular season contests. She led the squad in hits (54), RBIs (37) and total bases (68) this season.
Autumn Conaway, Faith Grooms, Alyssa Maisonet and Jessica Rathje were honored as 2019 first-team All-Conference performers by the conference coaches. Conaway, a repeat first-team AAC performer, hit .354 at the plate and had 31 RBIs. Grooms, the 2018 AAC Freshman of the Year and first-team performer, stole 37 bases to lead the AAC and was third in the NAIA in total runs scored (61)
Maisonet, a freshman infielder from Milner, Ga., started 35 games during her inaugural season and drove in 20 runs this season.
Rathje, a Glencoe, Ala. native, pitched 154 innings for the Golden Tigers during her senior campaign. She was credited with 18 wins, which was second in the conference, and posted a stellar 1.68 ERA in 24 starts.
Sophomore Caroline Mitchell was chosen for the second consecutive year as the Brenau Champions of Character award winner. Winners are selected as best representing the NAIAs Five Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Additionally, thirteen softball players earned All-Academic honors for their outstanding achievement in the classroom. Emily Baxter, Barbara Carter, Lexi Cash, Jazmin Decker, Chloe Fambrough, Faith Grooms, Shelton Kendrix, Cate McCauley, Caroline Mitchell, Tabitha Morrison, Emily Mote, Jessica Rathje, and Kaleigh Sullivan were all named to the AAC All-Academic team. Honorees must have at least a 3.25 or higher grade point average and have earned sophomore status. Cash, Kendrix, Morrison and Rathje were repeat winners of this honor.
