Golden Tigers Split with Eagles in Non-Conference Play
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team split with Faulkner (Ala.) University in a non-conference doubleheader at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park on Saturday.
In the second meeting of the teams this season, the visiting Eagles won the opener 9-4, while the Golden Tigers captured the second game 6-3. The teams split the earlier season doubleheader at Faulkner last week.
In the opening game, Brenau jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings, but Faulkner answered with eight runs in the final four innings to clinch the win.
Brenau junior Shea Reagor went 3-4 with an RBI and senior Brooke Wakenigg added a home run and two RBIs.
Starting pitcher Chloe Fambrough took the loss on the hill for the Golden Tigers. The senior pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing ten hits and five earned runs.
In the second game, senior outfielder Faith Grooms went a perfect 4-4 at the plate as the Golden Tigers scored one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to pull away with the victory.
Senior Brooke Wakenigg added two RBIs, while freshman Hannah Patridge and junior Maygan Loparo had three hits and an RBI.
Starter Cameron Dillard threw a complete game as the senior allowed only one earned run to capture her second win of the season.
Brenau (3-3 overall, 0-0 AAC) next hosts Johnson (Tenn.) University (0-4 overall) on Tuesday at 2 pm in a non-conference doubleheader in Gainesville.
