Bats Propel Softball Past Montreat in AAC Doubleheader
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team used two strong offensive performances to sweep Montreat University (NC) in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Sunday.
In game one, the visiting Cavaliers (3-27 overall, 1-13 AAC) jumped out to a strong 6-0 lead behind a grand slam from Ashley Starnes. However, the Golden Tigers rallied to score eleven runs over the next three innings to pull away with an 11-7 victory.
Sophomore Morgan Tyler went 3-3 and senior Faith Grooms added three RBIs in the win.
Junior Brooke Kibbe pitched 5.1 innings and allowed only one earned run to take the win.
In game two, the Brenau offense continued as the team pounded out eleven hits to take a 7-1 win.
Senior Brooke Wakenigg slugged her second home run of the year, while freshman Hannah Patridge added two hits and two RBIs.
Starter Cameron Dillard pitched a complete game, allowing only one run with eight strikeouts to earn her fourth win of the season.
Brenau (6-6 overall, 3-3 AAC) next travels to take on Tennessee Wesleyan University (6-4 overall, 4-2 AAC) in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Friday at 2 pm.
