Softball Splits with Bryan College in AAC Play
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team split a pair of conference games with Bryan College (Tenn.) at the Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park on Tuesday.
In the opening game, the visiting Lions (13-11 overall, 10-8 AAC) scored five runs in the first two innings and then piled on four more runs in the fifth inning to cruise to a 9-0 win.
Bryan starting pitcher Stephanie Blevins pitched a five inning, two-hit shutout to keep the Golden Tigers' offense at bay.
Brenau starter Chloe Fambrough struggled on the mound as the senior allowed seven runs over five innings to take the loss.
In game two, the Brenau offense found its stride in a 9-0 win in five innings to split the doubleheader.
In the bottom of the second, the Golden Tigers broke the scoring drought as junior Maygan Loparo singled in a run for a 1-0 lead. After adding five runs in the third and fourth innings, freshman Abigail Brown hit a walk off home run to close out the victory.
Brown went 2-4 with four RBIs at the plate while senior Brooke Wakenigg was a perfect 2-2 with two RBIs at the plate in the win. Sophomore Morgan Tyler also added two hits and an RBI.
Brenau starting pitcher Cameron Dillard pitched a shutout to claim her fifth win of the season.
Brenau (7-7 overall, 4-4 AAC) next travels to take on Milligan University (Tenn.) (20-4 overall, 15-3 AAC) in AAC play on Friday.
