Softball Splits Doubleheader vs Union College
Barbourville, Kentucky- The Brenau softball team split a doubleheader with Union College (Ky.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
In game one, the Golden Tigers offense pounded out 14 hits and scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to edge past the host Bulldogs (14-18 overall, 10-10 AAC) by a 9-8 score.
With a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Union put six runs on the board, but the Golden Tigers held off the rally to escape with the win.
Freshman Hannah Patridge mashed her fifth home run of the year, while senior Karly Smith went 2-3 with two RBIs. Senior Faith Grooms added three hits and an RBI at the plate.
Senior Chloe Fambrough pitched a complete game and allowed only two earned runs to capture her second win of the season.
In the second game, Union capitalized on seven Brenau errors and held the Golden Tigers offense in check to win 5-1.
Union starter Paige Oldham scattered six hits over seven runs to take the win, while Brenau starter Cameron Dillard allowed no earned runs over six innings in a tough-luck loss.
Senior Brooke Wakenigg and junior Claire Fendig led the Golden TIgers with two hits each.
Brenau (8-8 overall, 5-5 AAC) next hosts Truett McConnell (Ga.) University (23-7 overall, 16-2 AAC) in a 5 pm doubleheader on Tuesday at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Complex in Gainesville.
