Eagles Slip Past Golden Tigers in AAC Doubleheader
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team lost a pair of high-scoring pair of games to #17 Reinhardt (Ga.) University 13-6 and 10-7 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Complex on Wednesday.
In the opening game, the Golden Tigers led 5-2 until an error-filled inning allowed the visiting Eagles to slip by with the win.
Brenau hit three home runs in the game, but committed three errors in the top of the fourth quarter to allow the Eagles to score seven runs for a 13-6 win
Freshman Abigail Brown went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, including a home run, while senior Faith Grooms and freshman Hannah Patridge each hit a homer. Sophomore Morgan Tyler also hit her first career home run with a blast over the right field fence.
In the second game, Brenau led 4-0 early, but allowed the Eagles again to score late to pull away with a 10-7 win.
Both teams had 14 hits each in the slugfest and combined for three home runs.
Partridge slugged her eighth home run of the season, while junior Kasey Blair went 3-3 at the plate.
Brenau (14-11 overall, 11-8 AAC) next faces Kentucky Christian College (8-16 overall, 5-15 AAC) on Senior Day. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 pm and Senior Day festivities will begin immediately after the second game. The team will honor Cameron Dillard, Claire Fendig, Chloe Fambrough, Faith Grooms, Caroline Mitchell, Karly Smith, Kaleigh Sullivan and Brooke Wakenigg at the ceremony.
