Softball Takes Two from Kentucky Christian University
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team swept Kentucky Christian University 7-5 and 3-2 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday.
In the opening game, the Golden Tigers came out swinging with three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The squad posted another three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead.
The visiting Crusaders added a run in the top of the third and then three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the score to 6-5.
However, the Golden Tigers offense responded with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Tyler singled home Claire Fendig to make the score 7-5.
Senior Kaleigh Sullivan then slammed the door on any Crusader comeback with a scoreless seventh inning on the mound to help secure the Brenau victory.
Junior Kasey Blair went 2-2 with two RBIs, while freshman Hannah Patridge added two RBIs. Senior Kasey Smith added an RBI as well.
Starter Chloe Fambrough pitched 4. 1 innings to capture the win, while Sullivan added 2.2 innings of shutout ball to close out the game.
In the second game, Brenau again struck early with one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead.
Kentucky Christian (9-19 overall, 6-18 AAC) again rallied with two unearned runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 3-2, but Brenau starter Cameron Dillard held off the Crusaders in the final two innings for her 10th win of the season.
Fendig went a perfect 2-2 at the plate, while Faith Grooms and Alyssa Maisonet each added an RBI.
Dillard pitched a complete game and allowed no earned runs on the mound.
Brenau (16-12 overall, 13-9 AAC) next plays Milligan (Tenn.) University (27-5 overall, 20-4 AAC) on Monday at 4 and 6 pm in Milligan College, Tennessee.
