Softball Sweeps Bluefield to Close Out Regular Season
Bluefield, Virginia- In the final doubleheader of the regular season, the Brenau softball team swept Bluefield College 9-8 and 10-5 on Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.
In game one, the Golden Tigers scored three runs in the top of the fifth to edge past the host Rams.
Brenau opened the game with an early three run lead, however Bluefield responded with six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-3 advantage.
The Golden Tigers responded with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to escape with a 9-8 win.
Senior Faith Grooms went 3-4 at the plate, while freshman Abigail Brown went 2-2 with three RBIs. Juniors Claire Fendig and Kasey Blair and senior Brooke Wakenigg each added an RBI.
In game two, home runs by Abigail Brown and Alyssa Maisonet helped propel the Golden Tigers to a 10-5 victory.
Bluefield (16-18 overall, 10-16 AAC) took an early 3-1 lead, however, the Golden Tigers pounded out nine runs over the final three innings to take the win.
Brown went 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Maisonet went 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Hannah Patridge went 2-4 with two RBIs and Grooms added two RBIs.
Brenau (18-14 overall, 15-11 AAC) next will compete at the 2021 AAC Softball Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn. next week.
