Softball Blanks Bluefield; Advances in AAC Tournament
Kingsport, Tennessee- Senior pitcher Cameron Dillard threw a three-hit shutout to help the Brenau softball team defeat Bluefield (Va.) College 4-0 in the opening round of the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference softball championship on Monday.
Dillard scattered three hits and allowed no earned runs to hold the Rams offense in check, while the offense put four runs on the board to allow the eighth-seeded Golden Tigers to advance in the tournament.
The Rams threatened in the top of the fourth with two runners on, but Dillard induced Lexi Harmon into a 6-4-3 double play to escape the inning.
Freshman Abigail Brown went a perfect 3-3 with an RBI, while senior Faith Grooms and junior Maygan Loparo each added an RBI.
Brenau (19-14 overall, 15-11 AAC) next faces top-seeded Milligan (Tenn.) University (29-5 overall, 22-4 AAC) in a double-elimination format for the remainder of the tournament. First pitch is set for 1 pm on Tuesday.
