Gulf Shores, Alabama- The Brenau softball team won both games on the opening day of the Gulf Shores Invitational with a 3-1 win over William Woods (MO) and a dominant 11-0 win over Central Baptist (AR) on Friday.
Against William Woods, the Golden Tigers used a strong pitching performance by freshman Riley Walker to win 3-1. Walker pitched a complete game and allowed only one run to earn her fourth win of the season. Brenau scored two runs in the first inning and an insurance run in the second inning to seal the victory.
Juniors Ava Moon and Peyton Hawkins tallied RBIs in the win. Moon and junior Dayton Power each added a stolen base.
In the second game of the afternoon, the strong pitching continued for the squad, which also added a strong offensive performance to defeat Central Baptist 11-0.
Starting pitcher Emily Hall shutout the Mustangs through six innings and senior Whitney Hulsey slugged her second homer of the year to help the Golden Tigers earn the 8th win of the season. Hulsey led the attack with four RBIs, while Moon added two RBIs and a stolen base. Power and junior Cayden Warren each tallied two hits in the win.
Brenau (8-6 overall) continues play on Saturday with games against St. Ambrose (IA) (8-6 overall) at 10 am eastern and Lindsey Wilson (KY) (14-2 overall) at 12:15 pm eastern.
