Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team continued to slug through Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a sweep of Bluefield (Va.) University on Tuesday.
In the opener, Brenau mashed 15 hits and starting pitcher Riley Walker pitched four shutout innings to help the home team roll to a 14-1 win in five innings.
Senior Whitney Hulsey led the hot hitting from the Golden Tigers with a 2nd inning home run and tallied as season-best five RBIs in the win. Sophomore Emma Folds joined the hit parade with two hits and three RBIs. Juniors Ava Moon and Peyton Hawkins both added two RBIs, while junior Breanne Brookshire and senior Charlotte Smith each added RBIs. Junior Dayton Power also scored three runs and stole four bases.
Walker pitched four innings to control the Rams and earn her 7th win of the season. Sophomore Malorie Watson pitched one inning of relief to close out the game.
In game two, the Golden Tigers continued to swing freely as the squad outlasted the visiting Rams 17-9.
Power went a perfect 5-5 at the plate and added three stolen bases, while Hawkins continued her strong day with four RBIs. Senior Allie Busbee went 1-3 with 3 RBIs, and Folds went 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Moon added two more RBIs to the victory.
Brenau (13-7 overall, 4-0 AAC) hosts Columbia International University (SC) (20-6 overall, 3-3 AAC) on Friday. Game one begins at 2 pm eastern.
