Athens, Tennessee- The Brenau softball team swept Tennessee Wesleyan 18-6 in five innings and 5-4 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday.
With the sweep, the Golden Tigers keep pace atop the AAC standings and currently have sole possession of second place.
In the opening game against Tennessee Wesleyan, Brenau pounded out 11 runs in the first inning and 18 total hits to roll to an 18-6 victory. Junior Ava Moon led the rout with five RBIs, while senior Allie Busbee and sophomore Elizabeth Bowen each added three RBIs. Senior Whitney Hulsey and junior Peyton Hawkins each posted two RBIs and Dayton Power and Emma Folds each chipped in an RBI.
In game two, the Golden Tigers rallied to score four runs in the top of the 5th inning to edge past the host Bulldogs 5-4.
After trailing 4-1 through four innings, Power, Busbee, and Cayden Warren each drove in runs to take the lead 5-4 and complete the comeback and the sweep.
Brenau (21-11 overall, 12-4 AAC) continues road conference play on Tuesday with a trip to Spartanburg Methodist (SC) College (22-7 overall, 5-5 AAC) for a doubleheader starting at 1 pm eastern.
