Cooper Reaches Exclusive Milestone
December 17, 2009
Gainesville, GA- Senior Paige Cooper reached the 1,000 point scoring milestone on Tuesday at Georgia Southwestern when she scored 18 points to help the Tigers defeat the NCAA II Hurricanes for the second time this season. She has also accumulated nearly 600 rebounds in her career at Brenau, which started basketball in the fall of 2006. That places her in a rare group of players that have scored more the 1,000 points and pulled down over 500 rebounds in a career. Cooper transferred to Brenau after a redshirt year at Warner, FL and was actually recruited there by Coach Gary Bays, who left to launch the program in Gainesville before she arrived in Lake Wales.
During her first season with the Golden Tigers, Cooper was named to the SSAC All-Freshman Team and was selected as the Most Valuable Player for Brenau. She was voted to the SSAC All Conference Team last season. "Paige is one of the best rebounders I have coached and is a very high percentage shooter that we go to when we need a basket," said Bays. "She is almost always matched up against taller players, which makes her accomplishment even more remarkable and she is the ultimate team player."
