Tigers Win Home Opener Over Wolfpack
November 20, 2010
Gainesville, Ga - It was a matchup of two unbeatens tonight in the Tiger Gym as Brenau hosted new SSAC member Loyola-New Orleans and the Tigers outlasted the Wolfpack, 64-59. The game was close from start to finish with the point spread staying within six points the entire game. Three freshmen led the scoring with Tatiana Khudiakova (Russia) and Brittney Wiley (Franklin County) sharing top honors with 12. Raveen Crawford pitched in 10 and ended up the leading rebounder with seven as Brenau won the war of the boards for the fourth straight game 32-29.
Wiley and Khudiakova were 4-5 from the field, including 2-3 from behind the arc as the Tigers shot .474 from the field compared to .411 for the Wolfpack. Turnovers continue to be a problem for Brenau and they ended up with 26 in this one. Loyola led most of the first half and went into the locker room at the half up 29-28. Keiva Council finished with 19 points and was the only player in double figures for the Wolfpack.
"Loyola was picked by the coaches in the conference to win the West Division of the SSAC, so we knew it would be a battle, said Coach Gary Bays. "They played the best defense we have seen this year and we made some bad decisions with the ball in the first half. I thought we made the adjustment in the second half and made the critical plays at the end to come out with a win."
Brenau will host Belhaven, MS tomorrow at 2 pm in another matchup with a new SSAC member.
