Mobile Snaps Brenau Win Streak
December 5, 2010
Mobile, AL - The Brenau basketball team got off to a horrendous start today at the University of Mobile in a SSAC crossover game and lost their first game of the season 72-49. The Tigers hit 5-27 field goals in the first half (.185) to fall behind 41-18 going into the locker room. Additionally the full court press of the Rams forced Brenau into a season-high 35 turnovers.
Sophomore captain Gabby Harvey (Lilburn) pulled down 12 rebounds to go with seven points, five steals and four assists. Freshman Raveen Crawford (Toccoa) was the only Brenau player in double figures with 11. She also had six rebounds. Junior Amanda Parker (Snellville) came off the bench to score five points and pick up three rebounds and two assists for one of her better performances of the year.
The Tigers tried to make a game of it in the second half, but the deficit was too much to recover from. Both teams scored 31 points in the second stanza, but Brenau shot .277 for the game and the Rams hit .426 of their shots. The Tigers did win the rebounding battle for the eighth straight game 47-45.
"We just dug too deep of a hole in the first half," said Coach Gary Bays. Their press took us out of the game mentally and we did a poor job of taking care of the ball and couldn't buy a basket. It will serve us well as we move forward into conference play next month."
The Tigers will concentrate on final exams next week before hosting Young Harris on Monday, Dec. 13 at 6 pm.
