Brenau Loses at Truett McConnell
January 23, 2011
Cleveland - The Truett McConnell Bears picked up their second SSAC win today with an 81-72 victory over the Brenau Golden Tigers (9-7, 1-4). Brenau lost for the fourth straight time in the SSAC after opening conference play with a win over Brewton Parker. Sophomore Nikki Reed led the way for the Tigers with her fourth double-double of the season (23 points and 11 rebounds). Freshmen Brittney Wiley and Raveen Crawford scored in double figures for the second straight game with 16 and 13 respectively. Wiley also had nine rebounds and four assists for one of her best performances of the season.
The first half was close throughout with both teams shooting well from the field (BU .455, TMC .429).
TMC opened up a 38-35 halftime advantage with a 3 pointer at the buzzer. The Bears finished with four players in double figures, led by Jasmine Butler with 22, 18 of which she scored in the first half. Brenau ended up winning the rebounding battle, 46-40, but went cold from the field in the second half (.317). TMC shot .485 in the second half to seize control of the game. Both teams did a good job of taking care of the ball with the Tigers turning it over 15 times and the Bears only 11.
"You have to give TMC a lot of credit for what happened today," said Coach Gary Bays. "They played with a lot of passion and we could not stop them defensively. We, on the other hand, did not bring much emotion to the court and they controlled the game. I thought we got great games from Brittney and Nikki today."
Next up for Brenau will be a home game Thursday against Columbia, SC at the Tiger Gym.
