Tigers Halt Losing Skid Against TMC
February 18, 2011
Gainesville, Ga - Freshman Raveen Crawford (Toccoa) came off the bench tonight and scored 14 points to go with nine rebounds to lead the Brenau Golden Tigers (12-13, 4-10) to a 64-59 victory over Truett McConnell (7-17, 4-8). Crawford had plenty of help as Sophomore Gabby Harvey (Lilburn) had another double-double, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds and Freshman Tatiana Khudiakova (Moscow, Russia) tossed in 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots. Sophomore Nikki Reed (Atlanta) was solid with eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Jasmine Butler led the way for TMC with 21 points in a game that was competitive from the beginning. There were two major offensive spurts with the Tigers scoring the last eight points of the first half to go up 36-23 at the half. TMC came right back to score the first 10 points of the second half to close the gap to 36-33. From that point forward, both teams took turns taking the lead. Freshman Anastasia Minaeva hit the biggest shot of the night for the Tigers with a runner in the key to give Brenau the lead for good.
"I was proud of the way we hung in there when we went cold from the field in the second half," said Coach Bays. We showed great resolve at the end of the game to pull out the win. I am very impressed with the job Coach Brown has done with his team and the improvement over last year is remarkable."
Brenau will travel to Columbia, SC on Saturday for another SSAC game against Columbia College.
