Brenau Basketball Team Honors Kaylee Martin
February 22, 2011
Gainesville, Ga - The Brenau basketball team (13-14) closed out the home portion of their schedule tonight by hosting Young Harris (11-13) and the game turned into a real battle with the Tigers coming up short 55-51. It was Senior Kaylee Martin's final home game and she received her first starting assignment of her career. The story of the game was Young Harris' domination of the post area as LaDondra Johnson scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Brenau had an off-shooting night, hitting only .328 of their shots and were especially poor from behind the arc, hitting only 6-28 (.214). Young Harris also won the rebounding battle 35-31 and shot an impressive .475 from the field. Freshman Raveen Crawford (Toccoa) was the only Tiger player in double figures and she grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Gabby Harvey (Lilburn) was the leading rebounder for Brenau with nine.
The game was close throughout with the Mountain Lions holding a slim 27-26 lead at the half. Neither team was able to pull away in the second half and it came down to making shots at the end and the Tigers couldn't come up with one.
"We battled hard, but the shots weren't falling," said Coach Bays. "I was proud of the way we hung in there and gave ourselves a chance to win at the end."
Brenau will travel to Auburn Montgomery tomorrow and then close the season with a game at Southern Wesleyan on Saturday.
