AUM Outlasts Brenau in Montgomery
February 23, 2011
Montgomery, Al - In what has become a familiar pattern this season, the Brenau (13-15) basketball team couldn't buy a basket in the second half last night against the AUM (14-15) Senators and came up short 55-47. The Tigers had two players in double figures, freshmen Brittney Wiley and Tala Black, with 12 and 10 respectively. Sophomore Gabby Harvey again led the way on the boards with seven.
The first half of the game was close throughout, with the Tigers shooting a respectable .440 and the Senators hitting at a .458 clip. The teams went into the locker room tied at 29. Unfortunately, the second half was a different story as Brenau could only muster .269 from the field and AUM hit .320. Free throws played a big part as well, with the Tigers going 4-9 and the Senators hitting 14-19. Brenau also turned the ball over 22 times and that was crucial to the outcome.
"I think we were a little tired after playing at home last night and then making the trip to Montgomery," said Coach Bays. "You could tell the players didn't have as much energy, especially in the second half and that affects your shooting."
Brenau will finish out the season when they travel to Central, SC to take on Southern Wesleyan on Saturday.
